Maria’s Midweek Mindfulness Moments

Kindness is simple and yet incredibly potent. A word in the right place. A smile at the right time. A simple selfless act can instantly change the dynamic of a situation and make someone else’s day a better one.

A really good friend and supporter of the Centre for Peaceful Solutions contacted me to let me know about something that happened to her last week. She thought it was really connected to the Midweek Mindfulness.

She went to draw money from the ATM machine only to find money poking out of the slot. The ATM was beeping loudly but there was no one in front of the machine. A couple of yards away she noticed a stressed-out young woman, baby in a pram plus a toddler in tow, frantically searching her bag and pockets. My friend asked her if she had forgotten something. The woman noticed the money still in the ATM and gasped. Through her relief she burst into tears, spilling thanks and gratitude.

It was what happened next that made my friend’s day. The woman had begun to berate herself for being so careless but a couple of older women interjected, supporting her by acknowledging that motherhood was extremely demanding and kids were extremely distracting. Their collective empathy and gentleness towards her was lovely to witness. The act of repatriating the woman with her money took no effort whatsoever and it created a tiny catalyst for strangers to communicate.

Kindness is simple. It takes little effort and in the right situation it is incredibly powerful.

What was the last random act of kindness you experienced?

What will your next one be?

With love, light and gratitude. Maria Arpa -x-
